Non-Maintained |
 |
- A Non-Maintained Emergency or Exit Luminaire is an emergency or Exit Luminaire in which the emergency lighting lamps are in operation only when the supply to the normal lighting fails.

Maintained |
 |
- A Maintained Luminaire Emergency or Exit Luminaire is an emergency or Exit Luminaire in which the emergency lighting lamp(s) are energized at all times when normal or emergency lighting is required.

Sustained |
 |
- A Sustained Luminaire or Exit Luminaire which incorporates at least two lamps, one energized from an emergency supply and operated in non-maintained mode, the other energized from the normal supply. Illumination is sustained either by the emergency lamp or the normal lighting lamp.
